Prepare the background fabric

Fuse the fusible fleece to the wrong side of the Golden/tan fabric. I used a simple 1” cross hatch quilting design on the fabric before adding the leaves.

Step 1: Prepare the Fabric leaves

  1. Lightly press your leaf fabrics to remove any wrinkles.
  2. Cut pieces of Wonder Under the same size as each fabric scrap.

Step 2: Fuse Adhesive to Fabric

  1. Place the rough (adhesive) side of the Wonder Under onto the wrong side of your fabric. (If you prefer, use a pressing cloth to protect you iron)
  2. Press firmly for 5–8 seconds, keeping the iron still — don’t slide.
  3. Allow to cool completely.

Step 3: Trace the Leaf Shapes

  1. Using a pencil or heat erase pen, trace your leaf templates onto the paper side of the Wonder Under (the smooth side).
  2. Cut out each traced leaf on the line.

Step 4: Remove Backing and Fuse to Background

  1. Gently peel away the paper backing from each leaf. (Use a sewing pin to lightly score the paper if you are having troubles getting the paper off)
  2. Position the leaves on your background fabric square as desired.
  3. Once happy with the layout, (cover with a pressing cloth and) press firmly for 6–8 seconds to fuse in place.

Step 5: Stitch the Leaves

  • Use a blanket stitch to secure around each leaf edge.
  • Add leaf veins using a straight stitch, starting at the stem and working toward the tip. (See diagram for details) (If you are familiar with free-motion sewing, this is a great way to add detail stitching)
